DHI Hair Transplant

DHI Hair Transplant

There are different techniques for hair transplant operations. The most suitable one can be picked depending on the patient’s preferences and surgeon’s advice. The most common techniques are FUE, FUT and DHI hair transplant techniques.

DHI hair transplantation is, in a way, a more advanced version of FUE hair transplantation technique. In a FUE hair transplant operation, the follicles from the donor area are harvested with a punch tool with a diameter of one millimeter, and transplanted into the balded area after opening channels in the recipient area.

In a DHI hair transplant operation, on the other hand, the surgeon uses a special tool that can both harvest the follicles from the donor area and transplant the extracted follicles into the recipient area.

Smoking, consuming alcoholic or caffeinated drinks, taking blood-thinning medications or any other substances should be avoided prior the operation, so as to minimize the risk of developing complications both during and after the operation.

DHI hair transplantation is done under local anaeshtesia and the operation length depends on the number of the follicles to be transplanted. Once healed, DHI hair transplantation will leave small circular scars on the donor area, but the hair will conceal the scars. Mostly, the follicles are harvested from the back of the scalp, where the hair roots are the strongest.

DHI hair transplant operation has a relatively easy recovery period. The patient needs to protect his/her head from direct sun exposure, moisture, dust, and every kind of trauma. A few days after the operation, the patient can go back to his/her daily routine. A semi-sitting position can be adopted for sleeping, in order to reduce the swelling in the post operative period.
