Sleeve surgery, also known as gastric sleeve operation, is a type of weight loss treatment. The main aim of gastric sleeve surgery is to remove a big portion of the stomach, which also include the glands that produce the hormone that makes you feel hungry. This leaves less space in the patient's stomach, and also as they will not be feeling hungry as much as before, they will not have the urge to eat every now and then.
The surgery is performed under general anaesthesia laparoscopically. It takes around 1.30 hour to complete. The surgeon removes around 80% of the stomach, leaving a little "sleeve". The patients are required to stay in the hospital for 1-2 nights after the operation.
